Another notable moment in the life a freelancer.
The other day I was called and asked if I could stage manage a short production at the last minute. It was a show that was already staged and produced, it just needed an Equity (union) stage manager to oversee it's performances.
Needing some moolah, I said, 'Sure. I'd love to help out.'
That's when they informed me that the first performance was to be in Scottsdale, the second performance in Santa Barbara, and the third performance in Riverside (out by Palm Desert).
'Uh, okay. What the hell.'
So, the company booked my flight to Arizona.
BUT - didn't tell me that they were NOT booking my hotel or ground transportation. There's nothing like sitting in the airport, waiting for your plane and trying to book a hotel at the same time.
Long story short, I got a decent hotel not too far from the airport and right down the street from the venue.
Here's the fun part: I missed the performance.
The company that booked me, told me the wrong date. I got there a day late.
So, I had a couple of paid days in Arizona...I hope. I still have to talk to the union about this one...
More as it comes.
